BADM weekend: is it Spring??
Valentine's Day was lovely. Mommy got a beautiful card and a handpainted box from my sweet boy. The crayons were a huge hit and Jake got a lot of cards from friends (although there were a lot of duplicates and some missing so we think his box and maybe Jack's got mixed up).
Then what a beautiful weekend! The weather was so pretty we had to spend almost every waking minute outside. Saturday was mostly spent in various parks and down by the river throwing rocks in the water with Ash and his two boys. They all came over after dinner too and Alex, Jack, and Jake ran around like heathens for an hour and a half. Jake LOVED it and then crashed like the Hindenburg after his bath and slept all night. Too cool. Y'all can come over ANY time! Sunday we baked cookies (gingerbread) and hung out. I made a pot roast with awesome Bledsoe grass fed beef and it was so good Jake actually ate meat! Wow! He also helped me make biscuits. Monday we went to Sausalito to the Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) and had a great time. Jake got to pet a Chinese Dragon/Lion, which scared him a little, paint on glass, see and climb on boats, play marimba and drums, and do a lot of other fun stuff. I really wish it wasn't such a long drive or we'd be there every weekend! After BADM closed we threw rocks in the bay (are you sensing a trend here?) and went to Fenton's at the Nut Tree for dinner. Super fun weekend and no one wanted to go back to school/work on Tuesday.
Jake's latest favorite phrases are "I don't know" (said in the inflection that I use, only, I hope, exaggerated) and "Hold on, wait a sec!" The second is usually at the map part in Dora while he's trying to decide if he wants to watch it or not. He used to insist that we fast forward through the map part and had us so well trained that we didn't even wait for him to ask, but now he watches it about 1/2 the time. However, to preempt the fast forwarding, he will hold up his hand and tell us to "hold on, hold on, wait a sec" while he makes up his mind. It's too cute. He's such a teen already it's hilarious (when it's not making me want to cry).
There are pictures from BADM coming but we're waiting for me to have a spare moment and Ama to send hers too so they will be in a seperate post very soon (this week, I promise).

Happy Valentine's Day!
Jake has his Valentine's Day party at school today. They wanted 16 valentines and sandwiches for all the kids. I, being me, couldn't just go out and buy the stupid, generic, tv character-themed pack of dime store cards that every little kid gives out. Of course not. I had to make crayon mosaics and hand made cards. And I couldn't have bought turkey sandwiches. Oh no. I had to make 3 kinds of sandwiches on whole grain bread (they feed them crap every day, I needed to have something healthy available even if it's just this once) and cut them into cute little heart shapes. Apparently I have channeled the creativity with which I used to approach Valentine's Day with my boyfriend/husband into child's projects. Yup, I'm someone's mom.
Sadly, I forgot to take pictures of the crayons before they left for school, but they really are cool. They're heart shaped and they draw in multiple colors depending on what part of the crayon you're using. You break up all the old crayons and melt them in the oven at 200 degreees for a few minutes in silicone heart molds (that my mom was nice enough to scout out at Michael's). A project that we will definately be doing again. Maybe when Jake's older and can help me break them up - my fingers hurt! Anyway, take my word for it, they're cool.
So Happy Valentine's Day to all. Live well, laugh often, love much!
** Edited 2/18/10 to add a picture of the crayon hearts. Sadly, blogspot ahs decided that my picture was sideways and I can't figure out how to fix it, so tilt your head 90 degrees to the left to view them right-side-up.
