Happy Valentine's Day!

Jake has his Valentine's Day party at school today. They wanted 16 valentines and sandwiches for all the kids. I, being me, couldn't just go out and buy the stupid, generic, tv character-themed pack of dime store cards that every little kid gives out. Of course not. I had to make crayon mosaics and hand made cards. And I couldn't have bought turkey sandwiches. Oh no. I had to make 3 kinds of sandwiches on whole grain bread (they feed them crap every day, I needed to have something healthy available even if it's just this once) and cut them into cute little heart shapes. Apparently I have channeled the creativity with which I used to approach Valentine's Day with my boyfriend/husband into child's projects. Yup, I'm someone's mom.
Sadly, I forgot to take pictures of the crayons before they left for school, but they really are cool. They're heart shaped and they draw in multiple colors depending on what part of the crayon you're using. You break up all the old crayons and melt them in the oven at 200 degreees for a few minutes in silicone heart molds (that my mom was nice enough to scout out at Michael's). A project that we will definately be doing again. Maybe when Jake's older and can help me break them up - my fingers hurt! Anyway, take my word for it, they're cool.
So Happy Valentine's Day to all. Live well, laugh often, love much!
** Edited 2/18/10 to add a picture of the crayon hearts. Sadly, blogspot ahs decided that my picture was sideways and I can't figure out how to fix it, so tilt your head 90 degrees to the left to view them right-side-up.
